Hi just bought the new CD through Amazon's really great! Unfortunately the CDR will not rip into my itunes. Is there anyway that I can get a download of it without buying it again? I'm so happy you are still putting new, great music!!

Saw u in sunbury, been watching u for years, missed earlier half moon but went to the gig where a fan played bass, still love you, bought one new pal to putney and 3 to sunbury, they all thought you were great, taxi home discussed how bloody lucky sunbury was.

Is the Leicester December gig the only one you have planned? Any in November?

There are no gigs for November , the Musician in Leicester is the next one. Should be more dates however next year.

Great, great gig in Sunbury last night guys. I was hoping to pick up the last four albuums, but you didn't seem to have anything with you! Anyway, ideally I'd like to get hold of signed copies of the cd's (and I know you've aswered this before, but I can't seem to find the response). How do I go about this, please. Ray

Ray if you contact Danville Records by email you will be given an address to send the cds you want signing .The band will sign them and they will be returned to you .Thanks for your support its much appreciated.

From Madrid (Spain)

Hi everyone:

I remember being a hard fan of DPW in 1989 and the following years. Now I am buying once again some of the cds in Amazon or iTunes (some songs). What an incredible band! It's fantastic all the memories these songs bring back. Thanks and keep going!

Great to see all the new releases from you but a soundclip or two from them wouldn´t be out of place if you want to buy the lot. It´s hard to choose then.

Are you the same guy who managed Crazyhead ? , yes good idea a soundclip or three would be in order

Hi John,

Were the drums on Decency mainly drum machine?? I saw Manu Katche on the credits.. but some of the tracks dont sound like his style?!
(Love the new album)

Manu played on Fine Lily Fine , Safe Life Safe Times, Clutching At Love , Boy On Top Of The News the rest are programmed drums yes. He was a pleasant guy came up to Brussels where we were recording the album from Paris. I think we freaked him out a bit. Parisian culture meets Leicester!

Have you been lucky enough to see Moby Grape play live?
Surely one of the most underrated and unluckiest bands in history.

No not exactly seen them play live due to time and distance but have become cyber friends of the individual members of Moby Grape over the past ten years and send each other news and music from time to time.Great band.

Fri, 23 March 2012 13:17:43 +0000

Hi John

Do you have a merchandising department, where I get all my Diesel Park West T/Shirts?

Susan Ann Fletchet

Hi Susan ..there are no official dpw dates for a while but there is an unofficial monthly performance as the “Filberts” in the bands hometown doing a variety of classic hippie rock n roll. It’s the first Friday of every month. No t shirts on sale these days but they are thinking of selling their own designer Wellington Boots!

Mon, 19 March 2012 23:32:37 +0000

Hi John

Received the latest album today, it's absolutely fab!! I was listening to my favourite radio station Radio Caroline on Saturday 17 March and I heard the track "this might be the last show in town" the DJ (think it was Peter Anthony) played the track twice in a row. It
must be his favourite track.

See you in Leicester

Susan Ann

I hope that your forthcoming solo gig in Leicester is not your last. You should continue to fly the flag for the diesels, even if you have to do it single handled.

(170) Susan Ann Fletcher
Wed, 14 March 2012 21:01:24 +0000

Hi Everyone

The diesels are the hippest band that I have heard.

I shall get to see John in Leicester, if I can make it. I luuuv all the band, when are you all performing together. Do you sell T Shirts still?

See you soon

Wed, 22 February 2012 02:36:47 +0000

Hello from the USA! "Do Come In.... " is a great record. "Lovers Voice" is my favorite. Is it possible to sell these tracks (and future tracks) on Amazon or Itunes? would be another good outlet to market your music. Not sure how big facebook is in Europe, but it's HUGE in North America. An official DPW facebook page may be needed. It's free too! DPW really deserves more exposure than just one website. You guys are great!!!

Wed, 1 February 2012 19:57:21 +0000

Hi Guys,
How to start...I like your chiming guitars and interesting arrangements. I realise while playing 'blood&grace' at full vol in the car that I have almost all of your releases in cd (I think corprate waltz slipped thru the net) and I even got your 'video hits' dvd as a result of being on the receiving end of an email from you. I have caught a few gigs over the years including your first 'half-moon' appearance when you could count the crowd and another when you performed your homage to the 'west coast'. I see JBs gigs in Leic advertised and I keep promisinmg myself that I will get there but I ahvent made it yet unfortunately.

I also have at least one of JBs solo ventures.....So I think I can count myself a fan. The thing is your music is always a 'grower'. It overcomes the senses over repeated listenings and doesnt satisfy the need of immediacy in today's world (which I think is good). I like it better like that as I find the music is more sustainng over longer time...I just hope you manage to get that 2nd chance.

Anyway, serious question, what does it cost to hire the whole band or a JB/RW set at a private party .....probably towards the end of 2012?

Many thanks

Hi Les any enquires about booking the band should be addressed to

Hi Chaps,

The new album is just brilliant. I've listened to it pretty much solidly for a week now.

Its an amazing album full of defiance and grace, bravery and flare, skill and passion.

These are some of your best recordings ever!

Much much respect and thanks.

Never ever stop walking the tightrope - it's a long way down.

I've got an old MP3 file of "You'll See".

Brilliant track, has it, or will it ever be released on a disc?

Yes we always liked that track , it was recorded in 1999 and with the original line-up too with Moth Smith on drums. Fully intend to make everything we did available soon.

Just wanted to say you were great on Christmas Eve Eve at The Musician. I'm a massive fan, you've been a big influence on me as a musician and songwriter (I play a bit) over the last 20 plus years but it was the first time I've been lucky enough to catch you live. It won't be the last (I hope!)

It was also nice to have a word with John afterwards, and for him to be a proper gent. You've all lived up to my admiration.

See you in the speakers,

Hi Guys

Have you ever considered DPW playing a venue in St Albans, Herts called The Horn. Its just outside of London and recently had Dodgy play there.

My band Waiting For Katherine play there and it would be great if the magnificent DPW could grace the stage?

Let me know what you think and i will pass your details on :)

been recently revisiting some older albums and was surprised how good Shakespeare Alabama still sounds today - not being aware that the band was still around I bought Blood & Grace andwas really taken away - so now I´m working my way back to your catalogue - really enjoying it.
Anyway , have a good Xmas and all the best for 2011

Hi - just wanted to say how great the new album is . Can't tell you how chuffed I am that you have put some new material out. Have been a loyal follower since about 1991, last caught you live at the Half Moon, Putney last year - great, intimate gig.
Rave about the band to my ( now fortysomething ! ) mates.
Just gutted that there seems to be no recognition from the masses, but, as is my usual perverted outlook, in a twisted way I am quite glad ( I know it doesn't pay your bills ) as I have the knack of listening to the music of the outsider.
Look forward to the next new album in 2012 now that you have started the ball rolling ! Thanks again.

Hi from Canada.

I stumbled across a cassette (!) copy of Shakespeare Alabama when I was moving last month and was taken back to why I started playing in the first place: great hooks, harmonies and killer production.

I also remember playing drums along to that record....the beginning of a long career!

I'll be tracking down a disc copy soon, but in the meantime, thanks for the music!

Hi There John and Guys
I have recently been listening to your Flipped LP and really like it. I have listed 2 of your records on Ebay recently and each time I do a message comes up to say that I must be sure that this item is not counterfeit. As far as I know both records are the genuine article. Have you had a problem with your records being counterfeited? the past

Thanks for a great gig at The Roscoe in Leeds last night. Great selection of old and new tunes. Its been a long time waiting to have our Diesel Park West fix in Leeds, but so well worth the wait. Hope that it is not too long before you are back. Would it be possible for you to put up some chord charts on your site for some of your songs as I do enjoy busking a few tunes acoustic but as you are left handed John I can never manage to steal the chords without damaging my neck muscles! The chords to Decency would be a great start. Hope that you can oblige. Looking forward to your next gigs in Leeds. Class will always tell in the end. Keep it going. Peter and Angela.

Top gig in Leeds last night, the guitars sounded fantastic from where I was sitting. Can't wait to hear 'Not Broken' on the new album; it sounded great and very well crafted. How do I get hold of it?
Would love to see the band on something like 'Later.........' I think you guys would blow the audience and viewers away. Hope you guys keeping going for many years. Fantastic band!

Just back from Leeds, fantastic set and good to see you looking up for it. Liked the new stuff so it would be good to know how to get hold of it. Hope to see you up north again soon. Would recommend the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge, it's a small town but you would get a good turnout if you ever fancy it and need some details let me know. Julian Cope has just played here and sold out and he's from Tamworth!!!!! Anyway thanks again well worth the trip out and glad it wasn't just songs from the first album some of really do have them all. Neil

Wed, 19 October 2011 08:27:45 +0000

Message for John:

Hi John,
This is James McNair here. I'm a freelance music journalist writing for Mojo & The Independent. Just a brief note to say that listening to your song Fall To Love never fails to touch and move me. I've listened to it periodically over the years since the Decency record came out and I'm always struck by the way that, for me at least, it seems to tap into the quite desperation of ordinary people's lives while simultaneously channelling a tremendous sense of hope. That was all I wanted to say really, John. Sometimes it's just important to pass these things on!

All the best,

(132) David Kemp

Great gig on Sunday night- delayed in writing as I have been deep in thought after such an inspiring show. My mind is confused and baffled that such an amazing collection of songs and sounds was heard by relatively so few people in such a huge city. It was like being in some 60s sci fi film where London is subdued by an alien mist that leaves everyone comatose in front of the tv. But we lucky ones had the secret antidote... We escaped the sofas and the adverts...we were the ones awake and able to see the lost legion come out of the woods ( their discipline and faith intact) and hear their chiming honesty and passion.

Thanks for bringing your skill, excellence and techni-colour greatness to our black and white Sunday night film set.

Keep up the good work chaps- your Empire needs you- now more that ever.

Much respect

(Ade Man-

Guys, that was a great gig at the Half Moon last night. I’ve been to see you many times over the years: Mean Fiddler Harlesdon, Borderline, the Venue New Cross, a dodgy truck-fest in Peterborough(!) where you played a great Stones set, the 12 Bar Club, and the Musician to name but a few. One of the best I’ve seen you play, great choice of songs and great to see Geoff back centre stage. Good to see some hair on stage! On his head not his chest!

(123) Andrew Dowie
Mon, 5 September 2011 14:57:40 +0000

Slightly ashamed to say that i'd not seen you live for over 20 years, having last seen you play at the Mean Fiddler in Harlesden in about 1990, but greatly enjoyed the Half Moon gig last night and thought the playing and John's voice were as strong as ever. Particularly good to hear Jackie's Still Sad again - a regular play on my Ipod now as my vinyl is a bit scratchy !
Will be at any future London gig. Hope it will be sooner rather than later. Dont know if you still play the cover of 'Mr Soul' live but would love to hear that again. Best wishes to you all.

Hello guys.
Saw you at the Half Moon last night. sorry it wasn't a better turn out for you but it closed the loop for me. I've been a fan since Shakespeare days but never got to see you live until now. And bloody good you were, too.
As a member of a band who failed to make it a lot more profoundly than you (one album and a single for Motown in the early seventies before being ignominiously dropped -royalty cheque still mysteriously in post) I know excellence when I see it, and you were it.
Just don't know how John keeps his voice so supple. Had no idea about the leftieness (I'm a leftie drummer - real drag). Or the twin Gretches, which on record chime like 12 strings.
And what virtuoso bass playing - melodic enhancement and holding things together is no mean feat. I never comment on other drummers!
Would love to have stayed till the end for a chat and an autograph but had to duck out to travel back.
Hope you have some more music out soon - I have everything you ever did, as a band and solo, perhaps bar the odd obscure single variant, and I still revel in playing your stuff, not least to people who don't know you (there are just the odd one or two, you understand!).
Ask them to guess who and more than one or two say U2.....
Can't be bad, eh?
Anyway, you asked for contact so I did - best wishes and thanks for all the great music down the years. It is appreciated, so keep pushing on, fellahs, please

Hi Guys,
I'm very glad to see you guys still working together, myself and brother plus friends came to see you play a number of times and blew us away in the 90's.
Your band and The Cardiacs are 2 bands I can think of easily that did not receive the popularity owed to them without a doubt.
I will check out the tour dates and we'll try to make a night of it.

Hi Guys, I only saw the band once, that was back in the 90's at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow - one of the most memorable gigs I've ever witnessed! Are there any future plans for a gig in Scotland again? I'd also love to have the guitar chords for'Fall to Love.' Can anybody help please?

Or another venue where you would go down well in the south-west is the Fleece and Firkin in Bristol.A great standing only venue. See you're playing in Leicester in october but that would mean a 300 + mile round trip/hotel for us. Shame.

Great to see you guys are active after all this time. I have always treasured my copy of Shakespeare Alabama and Decency ever since first seeing the band in Frankfurt back in 1992.No other band comes close to what you do although plenty have tried.

Hi, My wife and I drove up to Bilston last time 2009?(from Somerset)for the Marrakesh Express gig which was sensational-I did write to you after c/o the Robin 2 but don't know if you received it. See you're playing there again next month but sadly on a Sunday again, when we both work, it doesn't look likely for us sadly. You should check out a venue called The Globe in Cardiff, intimate, they'd welcome you I'm sure, especially as they have psychedelic nights there. After seeing you last time we bought several albums but the Byrds/CSNY stuff was amazing despite the small lacklustre crowd-would love to see you play agin but we seem to be off the pace down here. Went to a Beatles festival in Louisville KY in May and saw local band Eight Miles High who were superb, including the Clarence White period-people need to know this stuff

Just seen Dave Kemp's year-old request for 'King Fluid'.
Did you play it for him at the 2010 Christmas show?
It's one of my favourites too.
Any chance you could include it in the Putney set this September?
Even without the full line-up, last August's gig there was one of the best I saw all year.

Hi there

I'm a big fan of the band and bought advance tickets for the Roscoe show on Tues 21st June. Luckily I bought them from the Roscoe itself and so was able to get a full refund without losing the "booking fee". The cost for me was the wasted trip and time and disappointment. Hopefully you can make it back soon.

I'd love to hear the new album if you're mailing out any copies. My email is:

I've got all the others, so would be good to hear the new stuff. Would be great to see you lot up here in Leeds again.

I have been a fan of the band since 1989 and the brilliant Shakespeare Alabama album so was gutted when the Leeds gig was cancelled. Luckily, I checked the New Roscoe website before setting off so I saved myself a wasted journey. Agree with Neil that you need to get news about cancelled gigs published online as soon as possible to avoid fans wasting time and money. On a more positive note are there any plans to rearrange the Leeds gig?

Hi John

Great to see Rich Barton back on stage for the 2nd half at The Musician. Looked like you all enjoyed being back as a 5 piece. Any plans for this to be a regular guest appearance?

No plans as such but this is dpw the band that cares not for plans so I wouldn't rule it out. Yes we all loved Richs playing from way back. He has a great instinctive touch for fantastic little flourishes that can really make a track, Fall To Love being a good example. He is our Brian Jones.

Hi there,

Recently become a fan, through meeting Ricky at a recent Blue Meanies gig in The Cavern. Subsequently then fell in love with 'Here I Stand' ... my question is, is there anywhere I can get the guitar chords for this song ?

I tried 'Googling' it and checked 'Ultimate Guitar' etc. but no joy!

Can you help ?

Well they are pretty straight forward the verse is A -E -Bm -D- F sharp minor -E ....the chorus is the same but leaving out the F sharp minor and the middle eight is Bm-A -E- Bm -F sharp minor -E- F sharp minor-D-E . The chorus melody is just three notes going through all the changes ! Should have been a single instead of the rock n roll of Like Princes Do which was inappropriate at that time radio wise - JB
